OSP Investigating Poaching Of 2 Cow Elk Near Willamina

  THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OREGON STATE POLICE FISH AND WILDLIFE DIVISION The OSP Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for public assistance to identify the person(s) responsible for the unlawful take of two cow elk in Yamhill County. AN OSP MAP IDENTIFIES THE AREA OF THE CRIME. (OSP) On July 31, 2021, a Trooper from the McMinnville area command received information that two cow elk had been taken sometime during the week prior. The elk were taken in the area of Bell Mountain Road approximately 1.5 miles from Gilbert Creek Road. There were no hunting seasons in the area at the time of the take and one elk had what appeared to be a bullet wound. The Oregon State Police is requesting that any person with information about this incident contact the TIP line and leave information for Senior Trooper Rod Thomas.   THE FOLLOWING IS AN EMERGENCY RULE CHANGE NOTICE FROM THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE Chinook retention suspended in Marine Area 9   AREA 9 CHINOOK CAUGHT IN MID-JULY. (ANDY WALGAMOTT) Action:  Suspends retention of Chinook salmon in Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet).  Effective date: 12 a.m. Aug. 5, 2021, until further notice. Species affected: Chinook salmon. Location: Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet). Rule: Salmon daily limit is 2. No min. size. Release all Chinook, chum, and wild coho. Reason for action:   The current estimate of Chinook harvest is 4,418 (94 percent) of the total 4,700 harvest quota agreed up in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Because 94 percent of the Chinook harvest quota has been met, Chinook retention is closing in order to preserve coho and pink opportunities in Area 9.
